It is whith pride that we can look back on 130 years of tourism here. In Galtür everything is a bit more personal and friendly than in other places. The people of Galtür have had to brave the often hostile mountain environment; the power, as well as the beauty of nature can sometimes make itself manifest in the form of the bizarre landscape. At an altitude of 1600 m above sea level, "Heimat" (home) has a very special meaning. It was only this century that tourism started, bringing with it a degree of wealth. But far more important than money to the people here is the natural beauty of the mountains. This was especially evident when in 1980 a huge summer ski area was planned for the Jamtalgletscher glacier. The reaction of the people of Galtür prevented it happening: "as long as we live, the mountains will remain just as they are." Since then, the people here have been referred to as a headstrong folk. Natural events are steeped in history, as are the tourists, who come from far and near; Albert Einstein and Ernest Hemingway are two such visitors. The author wrote a short story about Galtür entitles "An Alpine Idyll."
Galtür offers winter sports enthusiasts snow sure conditions. Mother nature ensures a good snow covering from November through to April in the village. Within 10 km you can enjoy the happening scene of Ischgl and the comfortable, relaxed pace of Galtür.
The fresh summer air of Galtür is exactly that - the daytime temperatures are cool, but pleasant if one is exercising, and if it gets damp, a jumper is a warming accessory. Motorcyclists, mountaineers, hikers, and mountain bikers love the environment here.
Come and get to know us and the nature that surrounds us.
